fall in love

A COLLABORATION WITH

pt. 2

As FALL blows in, we know it's time for change. Our friends return to college, some drop out, family members get married, & then there are the few who watch from a distance because none of these eventful activities include us. If you sit on the sidelines & watch others grow up & completely change, then I'll save you a seat next to me because in times like these, I'm lost in the chaos of it all. Am I changing too? Am I not growing up at all? What am I doing, Brenda? This fall is my second year at UTRGV & I've been feeling a little distant from the people I used to call friends. Maybe it's because I'm realizing it's time for me to stop worrying about everyone else, I need to stop putting others needs before my wants. It's hard because I guess I'm a bit of a people pleaser & focusing 100% on myself scares me, but it's the reality of life - no one will be there to catch you if you're falling. I realize this might seem obnoxious & egotistical, but if you think about it, it might just be the smart thing to do.

Let me put it this way : this year is THE YEAR I FALL IN LOVE

I'm going to fall in love with myself. I'm going to fall in love with the woman I'm growing into. I'm going to fall in love with the woman I'm discovering inside of me. I'm going to fall in love with learning something new everyday. Stop worrying about what you had to eat today & how fat you think you'll look tomorrow. Stop worrying you look too skinny & you wish you could gain some weight. Stop obsessing over Dr. Miami's snapchat & wishing you had a booty like the ones he makes. Look at yourself in front of the mirror, completely exposed, & repeat to yourself that you are a strong, beautiful, one of a kind girl who deserves the world. Don't ever let anybody tell you you can't achieve your dreams. I'm a dreamer. I'm always dreaming big things for myself. I see myself fullfilling my dreams, whether it's next year, a decade from now, of when I turn 100, I will achieve my dreams because I believe in myself. That's all you need, one person to believe in you, and that person's you. Forget about your vulnerabilities & focus on your strengths. We can do it. Our confidence is key & I've come a long way to understand that unless I'm in love with myself I can't expect others to fall in love with me. Start listing every single thing you love about your self. Nobody tells us to list what we love about ourselves. It's always, list what you want to change, make a list of what you don't like about your body or job or relationship. Umm...hello world! It's time somebody told you to stop with the negativity. It's time we make a list of what we think others should love about us as much as we love it about ourselves.

I love that I don't hold grudges.

I love that no matter what kind a day I'm having, I smile at anyone walking by me.

I love that I laugh at anything, even it's not that funny.

I love that I dream new dreams everyday.

I love myself for not beating myself up when I fail.

I love myself for appreciating my parents everyday.

The list can go on & on, & it will always be growing because everyday I'll find a new thing to love about myself. Don't be discouraged, especially if you're like me, a single 19 year old mexican-american college student, living in the Valley, at home, with the pressures of fulfilling my wishes and those of my parents'. We need to break the barriers & set a new motto for girls like us. Maybe something along the lines like, we're allowed to be single. We're allowed to date boys without assuming we'll marry tomorrow. We're allowed to dress nice for ourselves, because we don't dress up for boys. We're allowed to prioritize college because our education is more important than taking care of kids. It's time we show the world what we're made of.

3 L's you'll find at FRANCISCA SHOWROOM this fall. I've met their entire Pre-Fall & Fall Collections & I'm LOVING it (oops, there goes another L word!) I found this little number calling my name on the rack & I was like "Wait a second, this is totally me." If you haven't noticed, I love anything with a detailed sleeve. I feel more confident in a sleeve because I have a scar from an accident when I was younger, so not having to worry & fidget in public is really great for me. Notice that this is the perfect buff. It's great for any formal/semi-formal occasion & it's not hard to accessorize. When a have an outfit as detailed as this, you don't want to overpower it with too many crazy accessories. For a subtle fall look, I decided to do a golden bronzed lip, no jewelry, leopard heels, & Coach's new burgundy mini satchel. It's still very warm down here, but the length of this allows for numerous ways to play it up & down for the weather.

STAYING TRUE TO MYSELF

It's hard putting my thoughts out there, I feel like an exposed nerve open to judgments & criticism. But I stay true to myself. Nobody tells me what to write, or how I should think, or what I should wear. I also don't over edit my pictures because I want this to be 100% me. By over edit I mean I don't own photoshop, I don't make my arms look thinner or smooth out all of my blemishes. Yes, I adjust some of the lighting to keep a neutral theme, but I won't alter myself into something perfect because I want whoever is reading this to confide in me when I blog here. I'm no model. I'm 5'7", I weigh approximately 160 lbs., I eat Freddy's Steak Burgers religiously, I work out when I have time if I have time, I binge on Mom's cupcakes when she bakes & I *donut care. We have one life, so I intend to fully sample everything yummy on this Earth while I have life.
