Salut Famille !

I've gotten so many questions about how I maintain my skin looking semi-flawless even after stressing with school, work, and my hormones! My secret to healthy looking skin is no secret. It's all in what you eat, how you sleep, your work out regimen, the types of makeup you use, your hormonal imbalance, how much water you drink, and most importantly, the energy you put out into the universe. Positive vibes only.

I've been using O R I G I N S since middle school. Before I even dared putting on makeup, my mother bought me an SPF 15 a decade ago, and assured me that by applying it everyday, I'd never fail to see my skin glow. News flash. Do not promise things you have no control over. We're young, still growing, our hormones are regulating, and emotions are bouncing off the walls, of course it was inevitable that I'd break out! Thanks, puberty. Around the 8th grade, I started noticing black heads on my nose, my freckles/moles started getting darker, I'd get pimples before I'd start my menstrual cycle, and when I'd stress, my entire face would get red like a tomato! There was not controlling my face at this point. Oh, and add to that florescent braces and oversized glasses. Hot, right? What my mother, dermatologist, esthetician, and I later came to understand is that there is not just one cream / oil that'll solve all of your problems. It's ignorant to assume one innocent party can fix an entire face. It's a team effort. Your entire body needs to feel comfortable with itself and stress free in order to radiate that effortless glow we all hope to attain. Drinking plenty of water is a start, but not the only solution.

I started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar every other day for about 2-3 months and noticed this was a contributing factor to my skin's healing process. I add just one teaspoon, so about a capful, to 4 oz. of water and drink it in one gulp. I do this twice a day. Once in the morning before eating anything, and another in the evening before dinner. After drinking that, I alternate between hot teas, and hot water with lemon. This helps my digestive system and wakes me up before even drinking my coffee. When I drink my teas, I sweeten them with sugar rocks from Teavana or natural / organic honeys. For my coffee, I try to use brown sugar and cinnamon, with very little cream. It's more just the addiction to caffeine that I have that fuels my need to smell the caffeine in the morning. I drink water with every single meal. Sometimes sparkling, most times still. When I get a little bored, and want some flavor, I prepare a small pitcher of water the night before with 1/2 of a sliced cucumber and 1/4 of a lemon. I leave it soaking overnight, and the next day I have refreshing cucumber lemon water. Lemon's got so many great properties and I try to intake a healthy amount of it daily. I'm trying to find the perfect matcha to substitute my need for coffee. So far, I've tried one that my mom found at World Market.

I add a spoonful of Matcha Powder, 1 cup of warm Almond Milk, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Turmeric, and a drizzle of Vanilla Bean Paste to my Vitamix and blend it until frothy.

The end result, yum.

Moral of the beverage story is that the liquids we put into our bodies will have an effect on our skin. Notice that when people say, Yeah, you can tell you drink. Your face says it all. They're not sugar-coating anything because it's true, alcohol and yeast makes us look bloated, and dehydrated. That's why, if you like to drink you need to pay your skin EXTRA attention to catch up with how quickly you're aging it.

I have dry skin. Despite my attempts at hydrating internally, my face is still dry. That's why I use the three masks linked at the end of this blog post. I use the Active Charcoal Mask on my lower 1/2 of my face because I sometimes drool when I sleep with my retainer on, and I started noticing black/white heads around my chin from when I sweat. I use the charcoal mask at least once every 10 days.

On my top 1/2 of my face, I'm a bit oily and don't normally breakout here, unless I'm about to start my cycle. When I feel an itch coming on, or I know I'm about to begin, I like being proactive by applying the Out of Trouble Mask once, or twice a month.

Finally, after washing off my Ying Yang mixture of a mask, I dry my face with cotton pads, and let my skin air dry for the finally layer. Drink Up Intensive is an Overnight Mask to Quench Skin's thirst. Trust the label when it says, Intensive! My face wakes up so vibrant and calm after applying this mask the night before. I walk out of the house so confident, after applying VITAZING in the mornings. It's like going to the spa in your sleep, and waking up ready to conquer the day. This is especially convenient because these summer temperatures are nothing but in the triple digits! I don't like using foundation or powder because then it looks "cakey" and cheap.

Always apply leftover residues on your neck. It needs some loving, too.
